quantum of solace review

New postby abdussamad.exe » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:00 pm

the games been out for the ds for a while now, but the game was so painstakingly unpopular that im surprised to see only 3 videos of it on the internet.

Cover-

the cover is quite black and whitish, not much colour. And why is james bond holding a bazooka with only one hand?????????
The cover artist must have been fired, he did a bad job giving bond a plastic bazooka to play with.

The box is given 2/5 in my mind.

gameplay

The game looks nothing like the cover, firstly it isn't in black and white. And secondly its played from top down view. So you have a third person perspective of james bond as you play.

the game is quite boring. All you do is go in one direction the whole time killing enemies and avoiding obstacles, basically doing what a james bond does. And you get points for completing levels, which can be exchanged for weapon upgrades.
You move the stylus to wherever you want to go and press any button to aim, or stealth attack them. I personally use the r button as that's where my thumb automatically rests when holding the console.
Close up combat is better. Pressing r and touching where you want to fire is easy. The hard part is punching them. You go to them and hold a button and go into combat mode.

Other than that, the game's more action than maze. It's just obvious what you will do. But attacking is good. While in melee combat, you can swipe left, right, up and down. And if you stun your opponent while he tries to block you, special commands appear on screen. If it tells you to swipe left 2 times then right 1 time then james bond will do a special move taking then out, which is fun to watch.for this reason, i give gameplay a 3.

design

The design is great, what the game was made for. The level structure's are one area, and one target. But in some parts of the game you can get lost and thats where the map on the top screen comes in. It also tells you where enemies are and whether they can see you.
To go to the iventory, just tap on the mark at the top left and the iventory opens.
You reload a gun from the inventory, which is not bad but better than having infinite bullets. Challenging.
Bond himself looks like the real person, and his facial textures are designed with intelligence. That's all about design. My only complaints are the pictures instead of cutscenes but this is a ds.
So i award a massive 0! Okay, just joking. I give it a 4.

overall

The game failed to impress me. I only liked melee training but the rest of the game was not good. The overall score is 2/10, which is bad for a game. But that doesn't matter. There are games worse than this.

er, ok, not that worse.

I strongly recommend you do not get quantum of solace. The wii, xbox, ps3 and pc version of the game is fine but the ds's one's mentally damaged. You want to get a game thats over 5, not over 2.

I know the DS isn't powerful but god those quantum of solace graphics are awful. The game looks thrown together in an afternoon.
